This is the time of year to polish up your best creative genius self and bring it with you wherever you go. If you are going home for the holidays, make a plan to consciously de-stress the dinner table. If you are in line in the post office waiting for the person with the most boxes to mail, (that was me by the way shipping your coffee!), be patient. Be kind. Be happy. Express your creative genius by demonstrating how to act with grace and ease.
“If I had to summarize all the scientific literature on the causes of human happiness in one word, that word would be “social.” We are by far the most social species on Earth. Even ants have nothing on us. If I wanted to predict your happiness, and I could know only one thing about you, I wouldn’t want to know your gender, religion, health, or income. I’d want to know about your social network—about your friends and family and the strength of your bonds with them.”
Throw a party, make a series of phonecalls, or be a listening ear for that person having a bad day.
While the holidays and the politics might have stressful moments, this time of year offers the opportunity to do more than just show up. It’s a chance to spread love around, with a smile or a helping hand. We’re social creatures and this is our world. Let’s take advantage of each moment we are awake to be just that, awake. You may not agree with your brother-in-law, or your neighbor, but you and I are lucky enough to be alive right now.
(Also, pro-tip: Try banning political talk from the holiday table!)
Spread your great fullness around, #creativegenius YOU. You and I, we are alive at this time for a reason.
Do not lose heart. We were made for these times
Sometimes the string on the bow
Is pulled backward very hard,
In order to let the arrows
Of peace and transformation
Fly forward…the farthest…
