Reach Through and Give Love

I’ve noticed how some radio interviews have focused on the spirit of the French people in their programming. While they continue to cover the details and updates, they also have chosen to highlight people who are retaliating by living their lives more fully.

I was particularly moved by an interview with a young man who helped to organize others to go out into the bars and cafes at night in defiance against the fear that the terrorists hoped to create. In the background of the interview, you can hear people erupting into the French national anthem. People coming together, their hearts heavy, but their will to love strong.

In the wake of the violence in the world, it’s moving to hear from those who are willing to keep their hearts open. I can only imagine what it must be like to be one of those who lost a child, parent, lover, or friend in Paris.

In all parts of the world, migration and change is happening. Some countries and states continue to keep their borders open, others not. From the safe haven of our homes, it’s hard to know what it feels like to need to leave a country to find a place of safety.

How do we keep the borders of our hearts open through the grief and fear and change around us?  Be grateful for what you have and go out of your way to be kind to yourself and to others.

Be like those in France who continue to go out in the world, and choose to reach through their fear and give love.
